A Third Look Fresher Than Ever
All good things come in threes, and ‘Anouvong’ makes no exception. With her third makeover, the Laotian Mekong boutique vessel may just have found the look she’ll carry for years to come. One glance at her refreshed façade reveals a striking new identity. Reimagined in deep maroon and white, the new color palette draws inspiration from the iconic Vat of Luang Prabang, where weathered temple walls glow softly beneath the tropical light. In Lao belief, the rich maroon hue is associated with protection against negative spirits, while white symbolizes purity and peace. Together, the colors create a presence that feels both elegant and deeply reflection of Laos’ quiet grace carried along the Mekong.
A Look Inside: Final Touches that elevate the ‘Boutique’ Experience
Still, not only first impression matters and the devil is always in the detail, especially for one of the most luxury ship playing the Laotian Mekong River. On board, nothing changes yet everything improves, by small touches such as new & warmer lights, redesigned wardrobe for more conveniency,…
But the most noticeable evolution can be found in the spa area. Softer lighting now dances across textured walls and traditional Lao weaving pieces, while warmer tones create a cocoon-like atmosphere. It’s not a dramatic transformation, nor was it meant to be. Think of it as the spa taking a deep breath: quieter, warmer, and more inviting than before, a small oasis on the Mekong River.
Other changes concern the Bar and one of the ship’s two signature suites. On such a laid-back destination, ‘Anouvong’ deserved a signature bar area of its own. Taking center stage is a newly designed back bar, framed by elegant arches and softly illuminated shelves, setting the mood somewhere between a riverside lounge and a hidden Lao speakeasy. Having already given his name to the ship, King Anouvong now leaves his mark on one of its two signature suite. Inspired by Wat Si Saket, temple built during his reign, the redesigned space borrows from its elegant cloisters, intricate carvings, and remarkable Lao craftsmanship. The result is a suite that quietly echoes the charm and serenity of one of the country’s most iconic temples.
Same Journey, Now Even More Authentic
Beyond the transformation of ‘Anouvong’, Heritage Line’s Upper Mekong journey is also evolving to offer more authentic connections with life along the Laotian Mekong. New excursions to Pak Sith and Ban Baw will replace Khok Phou and Huay Phaluang, introducing travelers to lesser-known communities shaped by tradition and spirituality.
In Ban Pak Sith, guests will discover a quiet riverside village inhabited by the Khmu ethnic minority, where daily life remains closely tied to nature. The village is also known for its long-standing blacksmithing tradition, where handcrafted tools continue to support farming and everyday living
Meanwhile, Ban Baw offers insight into Laos’ rich weaving heritage, where generations of artisans preserve intricate cotton and silk weaving techniques on traditional handlooms. Guests may also take part in private meditation sessions with local monks at a small village temple, providing a deeper immersion into Lao spirituality.
