‘Anouvong’ – The first luxury Mekong Cruise Ship in Laos has embarked on its Maiden Voyage

Heritage Line proudly announces the launch of our latest boutique luxury ship, the Anouvong – named after the valiant warrior and final monarch of the Kingdom of Vientiane. Having embarked on her maiden voyage on the 27th August 2023, Heritage Line Anouvong represents a harmonious blend of traditional Laotian charm and French-Colonial sophistication. The ship takes passengers through the unknown parts of Laos, with the upper Mekong River to play the star role in a most cinematic natural scenery. The cruises offer an unparalleled Laotian riverine experience, with spectacular backdrops, untouched riverside villages, encounters with ethnic tribes, and immersion in local culture, all complemented by insightful lectures and a hint of adventure. The ship comprises only 10 spacious cabins (three categories) including very nice public facilities to enjoy small ship sailing to its best. 

Journey on the upper Mekong – select from different itineraries

Heritage Line offers four different and captivating itineraries on the upper Mekong with its ship ‘Anouvong‘ to explore remote and hidden parts of Laos. The 3-Night itinerary takes you on a leisurely trip along the Golden Triangle, linking northern Thailand with Luang Prabang. This cruise is also available in a reverse direction of equal length and start and end points are either Huay Xai (Lao-Thai border town) or Luang Prabang City centre. The 7-Night or the 9-Night cruise itinerary adding more adventures on the river section between Luang Prabang and Vientiane, inclusive of a full sightseeing of Luang Prabang, making these longer journey a truly Laotian river expedition to discover unknown terrain and corners along this captivating river. The 7-Night program starts at Huay Xai and ends in the capital Vientiane, whilst the 9-Nights travels in the reverse direction.

A kaleidoscope of adventurous and cultural experiences and activities off and on the ship

Both up and down stream, either on the shorter and longer sailings, contain identical overall experience. In regards of the two longer programs, the 9-Night upstream require some more sailing time on the river due to the slower up-river cruise. All itineraries offer guests to experience the essence of Laos with a plethora of carefully crafted and all-inclusive activities. As with all of Heritage Line’s cruises, the company aims to deliver a genuine and all-encompassing understanding of the local culture, the people and tribes as well the Laotian history along the Upper Mekong River. In the carefully selected visited hamlets along the river, visitor get actively engaged in wonderful local Baci ceremonies, seeing indigenous handicrafts, folklore of different ethnic tribes, century-old agricultural techniques and the day-to-day life in a forgotten world. Guests wander into the jungle to witness wild-living elephants in a sustainably managed conservation camp. The cruises also include interesting classic sight-seeing, like the sacred caverns of Pak Oo adorned with an astounding 4,000 Buddha statues, a full-day exploration of Luang Prabang with all the highlights to it or a visit of the famous Kuang Si waterfalls (these two only on the longer itineraries). The more adventurous elements are added through optional river kayaking tour or soft hiking. The onboard activities make the overall experience complete adding interesting lectures and presentations, demonstrations or workshops.

The Ship – Heritage Line ‘Anouvong’

Heritage Line Anouvong’s staterooms and lavish suites promise the largest accommodation available on the river and welcome guests into an atmosphere of luxury and comfort with a laid-back cosiness. The entry-level Deluxe Staterooms (Main Deck) and medium-level Deluxe Executive Staterooms (Upper Deck) offering both 20 sqm (215 sqft) living space including bathroom and French-styled balconies. The expansive two Signature Suites (30 sqm, 323 sqft) are the largest accommodation onboard with a lavish bathroom including Jacuzzi, an inside seating area, and a comfortable outdoor-balcony to enjoy private alfresco moments. All rooms have floor-to-ceiling panomaric doors and are decorated with hand-selected beautiful Laotian furniture and artwork that perfectly complement the Lao-French-colonial style. The comfortable dining lounge, the tranquil tucked-away Spa, and the cosy, light-flooded Café-Bar & Lounge with its adjacent wooden terrace deck provide the perfect settings for passengers to savour the singular savoir-vivre lifestyle offered aboard the ‘Anouvong‘.

Discover Laos with a culinary (Tri)Angle

Heritage Line aims to leave memorable dining experiences along with the overall cruise experience. The dishes incorporate some of the most favouite Laotian cuisine with a nice fusion twist to it making the dining on the Upper Mekong a daily surprise. Flavours include vibrant Laotian and Thai tastes and aromas in the lunch and dinner courses served as buffet or à la carte, but guests also see some international choices among the great variety in regards of the culinary journey. The outdoor dining venues are part of the show with long table terrace deck dining and beautiful sandbank set-ups to bring some more excitement to it.

Travel the upper Mekong with Heritage Line

All of the itineraries are operated based on a dedicated schedule that can be reviewed on the website. The 3-Nights up and down stream are offered between July and April. Prices start at 1,421 USD per person. The longer cruises operate between August and mid-February starting at a per-person price of 3,354 USD. An Early Bird offer allows 5% discount when booking at least 180 days out of cruise departure date for entry cabin type only. Bookings can be made with Heritage Line directly (or via any travel agent).
